Thursday DVD Review ~ A little DVD's & TV

I never heard of this but was browsing new releases on Netflix and thought I'd check it out. I'm so glad I did what a great movie. Even if you're not religious you would enjoy it, it's heartfelt like a Lifetime Movie. You'll cry and laugh. It has a GREAT story that reminds you that don't judge a books by it's cover and that helping out your fellow man. It made me think that Jesus really is always there and can come in a form of even a drifter.

When a charismatic drifter (John Schneider) wanders into a small California town, he galvanizes a local church and its dispirited pastor, Henry Maxwell (Jim Gleason), against a politician (Mark Arnold) bent on seizing the church's property in order to build a casino. But to save their congregation, Maxwell and his flock must live out their Christian beliefs in deeply trying circumstances. Thomas Makowski directs this inspirational drama.

Another one for the boys, they love these films about animals. The Sea of course is always a big hit with fish, sharks and sea creatures. It was a good movie to watch one, I'm not sure the boys would watch it over and over like the others. But it was a great educational movie they actually sat threw :).

This Disneynature documentary from co-directors Jacques Perrin and Jacques Cluzaud examines the vital role water plays in human existence and the cause-and-effect interplay between oceans and the environment. Shot on location around the world, the feature-length film also dives beneath the surface with stunning underwater photography that documents lesser-known and endangered aquatic life forms.

This one I actually bought, now it's still in the wrapping waiting for Cole to have a Purple Key at school but we did watch the DVD that came in the mail and it was a GREAT movie the kids & adults would love. I didn't find as much as the adult humor you usually find in a kids movie that you kind of shake your head and go oh lord my kid is going to say that in public (i.e. the chipmunks singing bow chipa bow wow ... if you don't know what that is from I'm so NOT going there). The story is great and you get a laugh out of it!

As the son of a Viking leader on the cusp of manhood, shy Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III faces a rite of passage: He must kill a dragon to prove his warrior mettle. But after downing a feared dragon, he realizes that he no longer wants to destroy it. So he befriends the beast -- which he names Toothless -- much to the chagrin of his warrior father. Dean DeBlois and Chris Sanders direct this animated adaptation of the book by Cressida Cowell.

Ok don't laugh I HATED Seinfield and Julia Louis-Dreyfus character drove me NUTS. So I never thought to watch this show when it was on TV. Lifetime has picked up the reruns & and I of course held of on catching them until it was in Season 4. I'm loving this show the writing is GREAT, and I'm sad it was cancelled.

Julia Louis-Dreyfus returns as "old" Christine Campbell, a divorcée who tries to balance a friendship with her ex-husband, Richard (Clark Gregg), and his new fiancée (Emily Rutherfurd) -- also named Christine -- with her life as a working single mom. This season, Richard must choose between the Christine he divorced and the Christine who may have stood him up at the altar. Wanda Sykes co-stars in the Emmy-winning sitcom.

Ok so they are on Season 5, I'm hoping they will loop back around to Season 1 soon so I can catch up. Thank you to Lifetime for showing me this show because now I love it and peeved off I never watched it in the start and that it's now over ;(.

Emmy winner Julia Louis-Dreyfus continues her role in the fourth season of the popular sitcom about divorced mom and gym owner Christine Campbell, who struggles to keep a friendly relationship with her ex-husband for the sake of their young son. Along with running her own business and trying to be a good role model for son Ritchie, Christine faces the challenge of trying to find decent, grown-up guy after many years out of the dating pool.

Another Lifetime movie, that really touches on teen violence. Being the victim and thinking it's your fault is a hard thing to get past. I think it would be a great movie for teens to watch.

In “Reviving Ophelia,” sisters Marie (Jane Kaczmarek) and Le Ann (Kim Dickens) have always leaned on one another through life’s challenges, but discover they need each other more than ever as they navigate the complexities of understanding and raising their teen daughters. Marie’s 17-year-old Elizabeth (Rebecca Williams) has the picture-perfect life, with a seemingly equally wonderful boyfriend. Meanwhile, Le Ann is raising 16-year-old Kelli (Carleigh Beverly) as a single parent and finds it difficult to relate to the pressures her daughter is facing with boys, friends and school. When Kelli starts to suspect Elizabeth may be abused by her boyfriend (Nick Thurston), no one will believe her. But when Elizabeth lands in the hospital, Kelli’s surprising insights help Marie give Elizabeth the courage to leave her violent relationship.

  1. I really want to see Oceans. I wanted to see it at the Imax theater but my family vetoed that idea. I'll have to put it in my queue. My boys liked How to Train Your Dragon.

  9. The New Adventures of Old Christine was great. The entire cast was hilarious, especially Wanda Sykes and the guy that plays her brother.

  10. OCEANS isn't really fun for kids as it's all educational but it really opened up my eyes, that's for sure.
