Thursday Must Watch ... Just a Mom's Thoughts

As you know my thoughts on redoing a classic. A Christmas Carol is redone I swear every year by a different cast. This time it was done in an animation. I must say I will fall on my sword on remakes :). This was a great movie, Jim Carrey voice and character made this movie me smile. I enjoyed every moment and will actually add this to our collection of movies :). Disney has done it made me a remake convert .... ok well maybe only one this one movie. We won't talk about music, I stand strong on that.

Jim Carrey morphs his voice into that of miserable miser Ebenezer Scrooge in this computer-animated adaption of Charles Dickens's iconic holiday tale about the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Yet to Come. When confronted with Tiny Tim's suffering -- as well as his own mortality -- Scrooge learns the power of opening his heart. Robert Zemeckis directs a star-studded cast featuring Colin Firth, Robin Wright Penn, Bob Hoskins and Gary Oldman.

Cole has enjoyed the cartoon so I thought this would be a great one for him. The special effects are amazing but since it was an animated cartoon it was hard for the boys to actually sit and watch it. They would sit for a bit and watch parts of it and Cole said it was good. I watched it out of the corner of my eye while cooking and doing work and most of it was a good plot and movie. Just hard for younger ones to sit threw.

In a world ravaged by the Fire nation's aggression toward the peaceful Air, Water and Earth nations, reluctant youth Aang (Noah Ringer) learns that he's an Avatar -- a rare being who can manipulate all four elements and restore peace to the planet. Now Aang must join with his pal Katara (Nicola Peltz) and other allies to fulfill his destiny. M. Night Shyamalan directs this live-action adaptation of the animated series "Avatar: The Last Airbender."

This one was for Rick it was on long wait on my Netflix queue so I saw it on the Dish 99 cent rental and did it for Rick. I'm not a big horror film person so this didn't peak my interest. I did try to watch a bit of it thinking I'll be a good wife. But then Freddie came onto the screen and he looked like the Freddie I grew up but then he spoke and I did a Scooby Doo double take. I looked at Rick and said what happened to Freddie. He said oh they didn't bring Robert Englund. WHAT??? Ok you know my thoughts on a classic and even though I'm not a horror movie fan this is truly a classic and if you're going to redo it he must be in it or heck have a close voice! So I gave up and went to bed. Rick watched it said that he stayed a long the original story line but it was hard to really get into with out Robert Englund.

Samuel Bayer directs this reinvention of Wes Craven's 1984 slasher classic about Freddy Krueger, a serial killer who crosses the boundary between dreams and the waking world to gut his victims with his razor-sharp blade-fingered glove. As Nancy (Rooney Mara) and her pals fight for their lives, they also uncover clues to a shocking secret from their past. Jackie Earle Haley takes on the iconic role of Freddy.

Get your tissues ready this is a tear jerker. At times I was like move it on but overall a good movie of what happens when a parents passes and how to cope. Then add in a troubled youth and talk about wild times. A good movie if you're needing a good cry with a few laughs.

Following the sudden death of his wife, Australian sportswriter Joe Warr (Clive Owen) struggles to cope with his grief and comfort his young son (Nicholas McAnulty). Being a single father gets even trickier when Joe's rebellious teenage son from a previous marriage (George MacKay) moves in. Director Scott Hicks helms this touching -- and often hilarious -- tale of a family in flux, based on a memoir by Simon Carr.

I saw a new movie of Geena Davis's coming to DVD and was so excited I just love her. Well not so much this movie, talk about dark and weird. Really this one had me scratching my head going what the heck just happened here? VERY odd movie, if you like dark and off beat movies this may just be for you.

When 15-year-old Billy (Harrison Gilbertson) is involved in an accident, he becomes comically unhinged, and soon his family -- including an emotionally detached father (Joel Tobeck), a resentful mother (Geena Davis) and an aloof brother (Harry Cook) -- is launched into a downward spiral of dysfunction. As the one truly grounded member of the troubled Conway family, Billy has to pull everyone together in Andrew Lancaster's bittersweet drama.

I only caught this show a few times and was excited to see it on the instant download on the Netflix Wii. It was nice to watch from the beginning to see her journey. I like how from episode 1 to 2 there is a gap so she lost around 60 lbs, I think that was great to show how she started and her in her journey. All I have to say is she is inspiration, I know many people will say she did it to herself but I know how it goes to one day who the heck is that person in the mirror? To do it by diet and exercise and not a surgery is one heck of a achievement also. You even see a guy who is rude making fun of her weight and mean right out in public doing a nasty little gesture about her walking. I mean not even hushed tones like most. I'm sad to say this show was cancelled and we can't see her on the rest of her journey.

This Style Network reality series follows Ruby Gettinger, a 500-pound Savannah, Ga., woman struggling to turn her life around and forestall her doctors' bleak prognosis. Ruby talks candidly about her lifestyle and the daily challenges it presents. Through interviews with the people in her orbit -- including a doting nephew and executive producer Brittany Daniel, Ruby's best friend -- the show paints a poignant portrait of Ruby.

How can you go wrong with Peanuts??? Cole found this on the instant download and of course loved it as much as I did as a child. I hadn't seen this newest version and found myself smiling and laughing along to the cartoon I use to read with my granddad so many years ago.

America's favorite pastime turns into endless grief for Charlie Brown in this trio of vintage specials that depicts the Peanuts gang's struggles not so much to win a game as merely to even the score. No team uniforms, a ban on girls and dogs, mutiny by his players -- such are the troubles that befall Charlie, not to mention a summer camp where the girls take every prize. But when the Masked Marvel appears, redemption is only an arm wrestle away.

I had this one on my DVD queue but it came on the instant download with in a week so I just waited and was kind of excited since I like Andie MacDowell. If you're into political driven movies then this would be a movie for you. Me NOT so much, I could have done with out trying to watch this one. Another one I couldn't give the whole 92 minutes to, thinking I may have to shoot myself for some good dialog. I've read the reviews on Netflix it got mixed reviews, as I say if your a political movie person you'll love it.

When left-wing extremist Ethan Belfrage (Cary Elwes) murders white supremacist cult leader Rev. Kalahan (Brian Cox), Kalahan's wife (Andie MacDowell) goes on the warpath with two members of the cult. They hunt down Belfrage and subject him to torture, but do they have the right man? Frank Whaley, Jess Weixler and Matt Dallas also star in this twisting psychological thriller. Jonathan Mossek directs.

Another one I saw the big names on my instant download and thought I have to see it. Big mistake there was probably a reason I never heard of this movie before, it really was just out there. I usually like british humor films but this one just had me going WHAT?? I couldn't give this movie the whole 90 minutes of fear my brain may fall out.

Director Alek Keshishian unspools a charming tale that finds a young American (Brittany Murphy) attempting to play matchmaker for friends and co-workers -- with mixed results -- while interning at a major British fashion magazine. Problem is, she's so busy hooking up everyone else that she can't see her ideal match right under her nose. The supporting cast of characters includes Matthew Rhys, Santiago Cabrera and Catherine Tate.

It's my favorite time of year again! The time the best movies will come on Hallmark & Lifetime. I shared with you this great series a while back. This is the third movie so far, I can't say it enough how charming this movie is. Catherine Bell as this character really is like a modern day Bewitched (And NOT the stupid remake a few years back). This may not have all the laughs as Bewitched or Sabrina the Teenage witch but it has a great story line and you can't but love them all!

Cassandra “Cassie” Nightingale (Bell) always has a few tricks up her sleeve, but is surprised when her handsome fiancé, chief of police Jake Russell (Potter), proposes they set their wedding date for Christmas Eve-only six days away! The two hurry to plan the magical holiday wedding in time to spend Christmas morning together as a family, but run into trouble when a criminal from Jake’s past, Leon (Graham Abbey, “The Border”), returns to town. Jake fears Leon is planning to ruin the nuptials, but he isn’t prepared for the problems that arise in his own family when his two teenaged kids get into a huge argument, and grandpa George (Peter MacNeill, “Queer as Folk”), feeling unwanted in the family, threatens to move out. Cassie must deal with her own dilemma when the selfishly snobby mayor’s wife, Martha (Catherine Disher, “The Border”), searching for a job in the bad economy, promotes herself from partygoer to wedding planner. On the day of the big event, things only get worse as the minister cancels at the last minute, and the marriage license arrives in the mail bearing the wrong names. Just when it looks like Jake won’t be able to give Cassie the family she has always wanted for Christmas, he finds out there is more to his magical bride than meets the eye.

As you know my love of Hallmark Channel & this is the perfect movie for the Thanksgiving season. Daphne Zuniga who usually plays my favorite villein One Tree Hill plays the perfect work obsessed women in this sweet movie. A must see to get you ready for the season to be thankful!

Claudia (Daphne Zuniga) is an unmarried, successful corporate attorney but after several encounters with a persistent stranger, she is mysteriously transported to an alternative universe where she is now a loving wife to Bill (Dan Payne) and mom to Jake (Nicolai Lawton-Giustra) and Amy (Kennedi Clements).

The Elm Street- No Thank You, lol, I have a hard time sleeping as it is!

Ruby- I saw some of her shows, at times she gets to you, and when she went on job interviews and did that tour guide job I lost it, was well somewhere between funny and strange...I hope she continues to lose the weight though...

I thought I watched lots of shows LOL!

  12. My two boys and oldest daughter went to the theater and saw The Last Airbender. They said it was okay to watch once, but it wasn't one they would see again.
I'm a big fan of horror movies. They're my favorite. With the exception of any of the Nightmare on Elm Street films. Freddie causes me great nightmares and trauma from the first movie. Can't stand to even look at him without cringing.
