Entering the World of ADHD

As some of you know Cole my oldest had a VERY hard time focusing and just getting his hyperness to a easy level.  We have tried the herbal way, the diet way the just let life be way.  We've been trying and trying and nothing has been a permanent solution.   Now I know this is a controversial topic.  I have had so many comments made to me by parents or people who don't have kids but still have an opinion also.  Let me say you have no idea until you walk a mile in a parents shoes who is dealing with a child that just doesn't fit in.

Cole recently came home in tears because his best friend told him he can no longer hang out with him because his parents say Cole is a bad kid because he gets in trouble in school.  He's not a bad kid he just doesn't always make the right decision or think before he speaks (THIS is a big one).  He tells me mom my head hurt it feels like so many things are going on at once and I don't know what to do.

Life has been hard I have tried to avoid the whole medication route thinking it would just be drugging my kid.  Finally in a new school and the behavior increasing we went to see a doctor to see what they think.  They had his teacher take a test and Cole scored very high in the ADHD category.  She also said he has a kind heart, does apologize, does not steal or hurt people but he does have a hard time telling the truth and concentrating.

We started medicine on Wednesday.  I got a great report the first night from the teacher she saw night and day in his behavior.  Sadly the medicine wore off early which did give the tutor a run for her money.  She really is a treasure, and she handles him better then I ever can when he get's sassy.  Thursday was a rougher day but the teacher said it is at least better behavior then usual.  So we are moving forward.

I must say that this has been a long hard decision to come to.  We didn't just say oh our kid is a problem let's drug him up.  This has been a year of asking for help, with the housework, to the tutor to this behavior.

As a mother I can't stand to see my son hurt or not able to do things like other kids because he can't control himself to be allowed into these places.  We are taking one step at a time and all I can say is we are doing what we think is the best move for him.  I asked him how he feels after a few days.  He said his brain didn't hurt the last two days!

When Cole told me he felt like his brain was moving this
cartoon made me think of what he must feel like.
My heart went out to him.

Please be nice no mean comments, I had to think hard to share this but I hope that maybe I can touch someone else who may be going through this hard decision also.

Personal Gift Idea .... Welcome Home Basket (Seattle Themed)

And we finish our week of personal gifts with a basket to someone who moves back or moves to an area.  The sister of my leader of my women's group at church was moving back to the area.  I wanted to make her a little something.  I thought a Welcome Home Basket would be perfect.  Since we live in Seattle I thought why not put together a basket of things about Seattle.  We are known for some great coffee so I went on a hunt for coffee.  Then I went and picked up some Almond Roca, it is made right here in Tacoma.  And of course I needed a sweet treat to put in the bin.  I made some scones that are famous at the Western State (Puyallup) Fair - The recipe will come soon!

What you Need (this is for Seattle - Make if for the City you want)
- Starbucks Drink Packets
- Seattle's Best Coffee
- Tully's Coffee (McDreamy bought it a while back)
- Almond Roca
- Homemade Puyallup Fair Scones
- Bin
- Card Stock for a Logo if you want

You can make this for any city/state you want.  Find the things that make that city special.  We are of course known for Coffee so that was the main theme of my basket.  I could have thrown in some apples too :).  I was going to make a logo but I found this Taste of Seattle one that I printed on Card Stock and sprayed with glue and attached to the basket.  Have fun with it and you can bring a smile to someone's face!

Been one of those days ...

It's been crazy busy at work and after work I've been running around.  Plus I've been so tired lately, not sure what is going on with me.  I find myself avoid my Zumba class, which is not good.  I have been attending the YMCA and working out doing 5 days or more a week.  BUT I know my Zumba class is so good and the best way to loose weight.  I need to get my butt motivated to go back.

Thought I'd share a funny with you all!
Funny Friendship Ecard: Please give me an excuse to avoid the gym today.

My next gift  basket will be up Thursday ran out of time today.

Personal Gift Idea .... New Job Gift Basket

As most of you know I love to give a gift basket.  There is just something about putting together a gift with things that you know will bring a smile to someone's face.  I love spending time and finding just the right items for each one.  My friend in my Women's Group at church got a new job.  It was a HUGE opportunity and one that I know she had been praying on.  I was so excited and wanted to give her a little something for her first day.  I went to pinterest and found a few ideas from D.I.Y. Louisville and Darling Doodles.  I took these ideas as my spring board and created my own basket.  Next time I may find a cool bag with the person's name embroidered on it.

What you Need:
Notebook - For Taking Notes
Highlighters - For highlighting important notes
Pens - because they always get stolen
Fruit Snacks - When you don't want to walk to vending machine
Calculator - To add up the big bucks you'll be making
Binder Clips - Bind your lips if needed or reports it's a toss some days
Creamer - When you need to take the edge off black coffee
Aleve - For those days that won't end
Book - Stories of Faith when you need a pick me up
Candle - When you need a moment
Lotion - To keep hands soft from all the paper cuts
Room Spray - When the boy funk gets too much
Lip Gloss - In case a cute guy comes by
Gum - When you need a little chewing to keep you awake
Altoids - For anyone with smelly breath
Chocolate - When all else fails eat some!

I had this all wrote out on a nice little piece of paper (totally forgot to put it in basket .. lol).  I put this all in a nice basket and added a little cute smiley dude and wrote Congrats on your new job.

Personal Gift Idea .... RELAX Gift Basket

Getting close to the holidays I'm going to show off some fun personal gift ideas you can make for the holidays, birthdays or a just because gift!  This is a fun gift that was easy to put together for Cole's Teacher for her birthday.  It cost around $20 to make and was a priceless gift I must say so ... lol.

I found this RELAX gift idea with FREE printable on Little Miss Suzy Q's site.  She had it listed great so it was easy to buy for and put together.

Here is what she had listed:
Read- Book, reading glasses ,book light, gift card to a favorite bookstore.
Enjoy-chocolate, favorite candy bar, CD, DVD, I did Cutler's cookies (if you live in Davis County, you know why).
Lunch-gift card to a favorite sandwich shop, Lunchable, coupon for a lunch date on you.
Alleviate-lotion, fuzzy socks, sleep mask, pedicure gift card.
Exfoliate-Loofa, foot scrub, pummis stone or file.

Here is what I did:
R - Read - Book (It's hard Being Green, by Jim Henson)
E - Enjoy - Bag of Chocolate
L - Lunch - Gift Card to Subway ($5)
A - Alleviate - Fuzzy Socks, Sleep Mask, Gel Mask and Candles.
X - Exfoliate - Lotion, Loofa and Pedicure Set.

Extra Items you need:
Bin - $1 at Dollar Tree
Clear Bags - $1 (25 pk) Dollar Tree
Ribbon - $1 Dollar Tree (Blue, Pink, Orange, Green, Yellow)
Hole Punch

I picked up most of these items at the Dollar Tree.  I found a bin that could fit it all in and then medium sized bags and tied with matching ribbon to the color of the letter template she gave as a free printable.  I punched a hole in each letter and tied with the coordinating ribbon to the color of the letter.

I got a very sweet thank you card from Cole's teacher.
This was very simple!

And we wrap this Halloween ...

Several hot glue gun burns later and tons of hours on costume making I'm happy to put this day behind me.  NOT so sure I'll be doing the homemade costume again next year but knowing me I will forget about the pains and go for it again.

We did Wednesday night at the church, they had a huge event with jumpy things, trunk or treat, the High School Band played a few songs and even a costume contest.  If you may have guessed by now I go all out for events and may be a tad bit of a competitive in my nature.  YUP I'm so trying to work on this one!  I must say I was sad that we didn't win (ok a little peeved ... ok really peeved .. God so giving me a lesson to be humble).  We will just say a really cool box with duct tape won and some store bought witch costumes.  YUP I'm over it .. lol (yes I'm a work in progress).

Halloween night we headed up to my parents to visit with them and do the rounds then hit downtown where the shop owners give out candy.  I'm happy to be done with it and happy it will another year before I get some crazy idea to make costumes again ... lol.

Hope you all had a safe night!

Have a GREAT weekend!
