Birthday Dreams ... Spongebob Cupcakes

I did it again signed up for a few cupcakes.  I just love this charity Birthday Dreams (bringing birthday's to homeless kids).  I signed up for a party for a Spongebob themed party.  I googled Spongebob cupcakes and came across a picture on Cakes 'n Stuff.

I made spongebob, patrick and plankton cupcake toppers.

I found from watching the Food Network the Candy Clay I make is called Modeling Chocolate to many decorators.  Hmm go figure!

Modeling Clay
12oz Candy Melts
1/4 Cup light corn Syrup

Melt your Candy Melts in microwave (mine takes about 2 minutes). Stir them to become smooth and add the corn syrup.  It will become thick and form a ball.  Wrap in plastic wrap and let it sit out and dry.  Takes a few hours or over night is best. (Alexis note: I found to roll this out use a little powder sugar (like you would do with flour), also you have to kneed it a little like you would dough to make it easy to roll out).

Spongebob:

Blue Modeling Clay
Black Modeling Clay
White Modeling Clay
Black Decorating Gel

Take a large circle cutter to make the face in yellow.  Small circle to cut white for eyes.  I made small ball of yellow for the nose, small ball of blue and black for they eyes.  I cut small triangles of white for the teeth.  I added the eye lashes and mouth with black decorating gel.

Patrick:

Take a large circle cutter to make the face in pink.  Small oval cutter to cut white for eyes.  I made small ball of black for the eyes.  I cut a circle then halved it in black for the mouth and then added a little red for the tongue. I added the eyebrows and mouth with black decorating gel.

Plankton:

  5. These Sponge Bob cupcakes are adorable and yummy too :) Not sure why a sponge is so popular, especially with such an annoying laugh but all the kids (and a lot of grown ups) love him! You did an awesome job on decorating these!
