Pumpkin Harvest Bones (Dog Treat)

Next dog treat to make was a Pumpkin Harvest Bone I found this recipe on Food.com. We had enough to even share when we took our pup for a doggy play date! Since I'm pumpkin obsessed the dog is getting lot's of pumpkin treats also!

Ingredients

    • 2 eggs
    • 1/2 cup canned pumpkin
    • 1/2 teaspoon salt
    • 2 tablespoons dry milk
    • 2 1/2 cups flour ( wheat is probably better!)
    • water

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
  2. Blend eggs and pumpkin together; add salt, dry milk, and flour.
  3. Add water as needed to make the dough somewhat workable.
  4. The dough should be dry and stiff, don't be concerned with crumbs being left in the bowl.
  5. You will need to mix this with your hands because it is too stiff for an electric mixer.
  6. Roll to 1/2-inch thick.
  7. Cut into shapes.
  8. Place 1" apart on ungreased cookie sheet.
  9. Bake for 20 minutes on one side, then turn over and bake another 20 minutes.

Gift bag for our doggy play date!

New Family Addition ... We make you Homemade Pumpkin Peanut Butter Dog Treats

Yes you read that right we have a new family member. A very sweet 5 year old Mini Pincher / Jack Russell Terrier named Chase. My friend had been foster him to rehabilitate him, from a bad home situation. He's a bit timid and shy but he's fitting in perfect with the family. My youngest who is usually afraid of dogs is in love!

So like anyone new to my home when you come to visit I make you something to eat! I went on a search for an easy dog treat!  I found a recipe for Homemade Pumpkin Peanut Butter Dog Treats on Damn Delicious. Easy and a big hit with our new pup.

Ingredients
  • 2/3 cup pumpkin puree
  • 1/4 cup peanut butter
  • 2 large eggs
  • 3 cups whole wheat flour, or more, as needed
Instructions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat; set aside.

In the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, beat pumpkin puree, peanut butter and eggs on medium-high until well combined, about 1-2 minutes. Gradually add 2 1/2 cups flour at low speed, beating just until incorporated. Add an additional 1/4 cup flour at a time just until the dough is no longer sticky.

Working on a lightly floured surface, knead the dough 3-4 times until it comes together. Using a rolling pin, roll the dough to 1/4-inch thickness. Using cookie cutters, cut out desired shapes and place onto the prepared baking sheet.

Place into oven and bake until the edges are golden brown, about 20-25 minutes.

Let cool completely.

Meet Chase!

Manic Monday Meals ~ 2 Treats for Humans & 2 Treats for Dog Children

It's a banana day here .... well except one recipe :). We love banana's here and I'm always trying to use them in different recipes. Here are a few I came across and loved, well the one's we ate the puppy loved his treats as always.

***REMEMBER TO CLICK ON RECIPE TAB TO SEE THE RECIPE AND DIRECTIONS****

I found this one on Cooks.com, skipped the whipped cream since I never have this on hand. Remember to bake your pie crust before putting it all together ... YES I'm not perfect and forgot to do that, scooped it all out and let's just say it wasn't pretty :).

Next on the list was some yummy cupcakes with frosting! I found this recipe on Food.com but didn't have all the ingredients for the frosting so I used the recipe from Allrecipes.com and tada I'm done :).

Banana-Sour Cream Cake with Brown Sugar Cream Frosting

Cupcake, Sour Cream, Cream Cheese, Frosting, Dessert

See Banana-Sour Cream Cake with Brown Sugar Cream Frosting on Key Ingredient.

Now for some more left over banana's I turn to dog biscuits for the puppy. I know he is spoiled homemade dog biscuits and a new flavor each time :). What can I say it's easy to do and I'm cheap :). I found these on Doggy Dessert Chef she has the coolest cookie cutters this one she did in the shape of a squirrel. I looked and couldn't find a squirrel in my 101 cookie box (I know you would think with all those it would have one but no) so I turned to my dog bone cutter :).

Honey Banana Dog Biscuits

Dog Biscuit, Dog Treat, Honey, Banana

Next on the dog biscuit list was a great recipe from Pet Sugar these turned out great the dough needed a little extra flour but it was easy to work with and made a large batch that will probably last us a week in an air tight container. It would probably last longer but he sure does love them :).

Just one of those days!

Yesterday at work I was just done, I don't know what happen to me but I was pooped I had it on my mission to work out. But for some reason I couldn't get my rear (literally) in gear. Rick had a early night from work and called and offered to pick up dinner, I was so in a bummer mood I couldn't even get excited that he offered. I won't mention that it was fast food but I at least could veg for a little while and even went to bed early :).

The only cooking I did was for the dog. I found that last time in my hast I put the biscuits in the container too quickly and the moist caused mold ... ugh! Yup had to throw them all out, so I had to make more. I found yet another recipe to try out! And I let them sit out all night to make sure they were dried out and ok to store.
by Dog Paw Print

1 cup (250 ml) dry oats
2 cups (500 ml) whole wheat flour
1 cup (250 ml) all natural peanut butter
1 cup (250 ml) water
¼ cup (60 ml) canola oil
1 egg, beaten (or Egg Beaters, equiv. to 1 egg)

Preheat oven to 350° (180°). Mix all of the ingredients together in a fairly large bowl. Sprinkle a bit of flour over a flat, clean surface, and roll the mixture out over the flour to about ¾" (2 mm) thickness. Use dog-themed cookie cutters or simply cut into rectangles and place on a lightly greased cookie sheet. Cook first for 20 minutes on one side and then flip the treats over and cook an additional 20 minutes. Remove to cooling racks and let dry out thoroughly. Dog biscuits are ready after about two hours.

A little Pasta, A little Sweets & of course Treat for the Puppy!

I bring to you some special food we had this week! Of course a treat that everyone liked!
We start with a yummy dinner! Alex is my my go to recipe girl!
Ma, What's for dinner?
1 lb ground chicken
2 cloves minced garlic
8 oz canned petite diced tomatoes undrained
8 oz canned tomato sauce
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp dried oregano
1 tsp dried basil
1/2 tsp cracked pepper
8 lasagna noodles, cooked al dente
1 beaten egg
2 cups ricotta cheese
1/2 cup shredded Parmesan cheese
1 cup frozen spinach, thawed and well drained
2 cups shredded mozzarella
1 tbsp dried parsley
1/4 cup shredded or grated Parmesan
Thoroughly cook the ground chicken in a large skillet. Add the tomatoes, sauce, garlic, spices, salt and pepper. Cover and simmer for 10-15 minutes.
Combine the egg, ricotta, and parmesan.
Using a glass or cookie cutter that is close to the size of the muffin cups, cut 3 circles out of each noodle for a total of 24 circles. Place 1 noodle circle in each muffin cup. Layer meat sauce, ricotta mixture, and shredded mozzarella. Repeat. Top with a bit of parsley and grated Parmesan. Cover loosely with a piece of foil that has been sprayed with oil and bake at 400 degrees for 25-30 minutes. Remove foil and bake for another 5 minutes to brown on top. Let the “cupcakes” sit for at least 10 minutes for easier removal.
ALEXIS NOTES: I used ground turkey, it calls for 8 noodles but I got 4 circles out of one so you could get away with using only 6. I used poor man ricotta (cottage cheese run threw food processor). I added the spinach to the ricotta mixture and even skipped the mozzarella.
Treat for my friends at work:

Allrecipes.com

  • 1 (12 ounce) package NESTLE® TOLL HOUSE® Premier White Morsels
  • 24 hard peppermint candies

  1. LINE baking sheet with waxed paper.
  2. MICROWAVE morsels in medium, microwave-safe bowl on MEDIUM-HIGH (70 percent) power for 1 minute; stir. Microwave at additional 10- to 20-second intervals, stirring until smooth.
  3. PLACE peppermint candies in heavy-duty plastic bag. Crush candies using rolling pin or other heavy object. While holding strainer over melted morsels, pour crushed candy into strainer. Shake to release all small candy pieces; reserve larger candy pieces. Stir morsel-peppermint mixture.
  4. SPREAD mixture to desired thickness on prepared baking sheet. Sprinkle with reserved candy pieces; press in lightly. Let stand for about 1 hour or until firm. Break into pieces. Store in airtight container at room temperature.

ALEXIS NOTES: Have left over peppermint candies this is a GREAT way to give it a new look.
Remember to keep an eye on the chocolate in the microwave. Remember I burned it!
And can't forget the puppy! A great lady commented on a dog biscuit I made and I hopped over to her site to find an amazing dog biscuit site.

Ingredients
1 medium Sweet Potato (peeled, baked and mashed, makes approximately 1 cup)
2 Eggs
1 teaspoon Cinnamon
1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract
1 cup Wheat Germ
1 1/4 cups Whole Wheat Flour
Directions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees fahrenheit.
In a large bowl, combine the mashed sweet potatoes, eggs, cinnamon, vanilla extract and wheat germ. Gradually blend in the wheat flour. Knead dough into ball and roll onto a floured surface 1/4 inch thick. Cut with cookie cutter of your choice and place on ungreased cookie sheet and bake for 10 to 15 minutes, until edges brown.
Cool and refrigerate.
ALEXIS NOTES: I couldn't find a snail cookie cutter in my bin for the life of me, so it was the bone cutter again. Note to myself next time I need to smash my sweet potato better (Well I used a yam). I picked up Wheat Germ in the bulk section. I kept mine on the chewy side for the puppy but when he gets older I'll make them more crispy.
