Minion Cupcakes (Modeling Chocolate Toppers) for Birthday Dreams Charity

Here's another post I'm behind on posting. These cupcakes I made a few months back. I signed up for for a Minion themed party for Birthday Dreams (bringing birthday's to homeless kids). I did a little searching on Google and found some minion faces and I went to decorating. Some modeling chocolate and bam cupcake toppers!

What you Need:
Modeling Chocolate in yellow, purple and black (See Recipe at the bottom)
Circle Cookie Cuter

Square Cookie Cuter (formed into straps for eyes)
Candy Eyes
Black Food Marker 

Frosted Cupcakes

I had modeling chocolate in several different colors made up before from previous projects. I took yellow and purple and cut out circles. For the faces I cut out black for the straps of the eyes. I added candy eyes to the faces, for the circles around the eyes I added circles around they eyes. For the yellow faces I took some silver dust and went around the eyes. Purple I left purple around the eyes. I took the black food marker to draw on hair and mouths. I then put the toppers on top of frosted cupcakes.

Modeling Chocolate

12oz Candy Melts

1/4 Cup light corn Syrup

Melt your Candy Melts in microwave (mine takes about 2 minutes). Stir them to become smooth and add the corn syrup.  It will become thick and form a ball.  Wrap in plastic wrap and let it sit out and dry.  Takes a few hours or over night is best. (Alexis note: I found to roll this out use a little powder sugar (like you would do with flour), also you have to kneed it a little like you would dough to make it easy to roll out).

Monster Cupcake Toppers (Birthday Dreams)

I signed up for another Birthday Dreams (bringing birthday's to homeless kids). This little 6 y/o who was living in a shelter wanted a Monster themed party. I have done a few Monster High parties for the charity but not a Monster theme yet. I was excited to find a new design to make. I did a Goggle Picture search for Monster cupcakes and came across A Sweet Life design for Monsters. I took her design and created my monsters using modeling chocolate.

What you need:

Modeling Chocolate (Colors of Monsters - recipe below)

Candy Eyes (Large and Small)

Circle cutter

Triangle cutter (or use a star like I did and cut out just the tip of star)

I started with 4 colors for monsters but my 4th color was an epic fail and wouldn't roll out, so I went with 3 colors. I cut out circles for the monster head. I rolled out the mouths (almost like a snake). For ears I just played around and made horn shapes. For the teeth I used a star cutter and used the tip only to make triangles. Some had 2 large eyes or 2 small eyes or 3 small eyes. Have fun with them.

Sesame Street Cupcake (Modeling Chocolate)

As many of you know I donate my decorating skills to make cupcakes for a charity that brings birthday to homeless kids (living in shelters and temporary housing). Birthday Dreams is an amazing charity if you looking for a place to help out, 90% of donations going right back into the business. I recently signed up for a cake for a Sesame Street party. I searched the internet and found a design made on Etsy by Taleen Shop. I took her design and made my own. I must say this is my 2nd favorite cupcake I've done so far (Angry Bird's were my favorite so far, hard to top those).

Modeling Chocolate / Modeling Clay recipe on the bottom if you've never made.

What you need:

Modeling Clay (Red, Dark Blue, Green, Yellow, Black, Red, Orange, Purple and Light Blue) 

Large Scallop Circle Cutter

Small Circle Cutter

Medium Circle Cutter

Small triangle Cutter

Candy Eyes
Brown Candy Melt (for Cookie Monster Cookie)
Brown Candy writer (for chip on Cookie Monster Cookie)

Frosted Cupcakes

Cupcake Box (I bought mine on Amazon)

Big Bird

Cut out your head in yellow ( I made 6 since I had 4 characters and needed 24 cupcakes). I used my scallop circle cutter. For the nose you take orange modeling chocolate and make a triangle (I couldn't find my cutter so I formed by hand). I added candy eyes (Large from Hobby Lobby), attached with water to the yellow modeling chocolate. For the eye lids I made a circle and cut in half for purple and then blue, make sure your purple is a little larger then the blue). Attach to a frosted cupcake.

Cookie Monster

Cut out the blue with your scallop circle cutter (again made 6). Add large candy eye's with water, for Cookie Monster his eyes are always crazy so put one up and one down. Medium circle for the black, cut in half for the mouth. I then took a light brown candy melt, took my melon baller to make the teeth marks. I then took a candy writer and made the chocolate chips. I took a little water and added to the moth along with a few of the crumbs.

Take your scallop cookie cutter to the red modeling chocolate (made 6). Add large candy eyes, attaching with a little water. For the nose I took a little orange modeling chocolate and rolled into a ball. Medium circle for the black, cut in half for the mouth.

Oscar The Grouch

Take your scallop cookie cutter to the green modeling chocolate (made 6). Add large candy eyes, attaching with a little water. For eye brows take a strip of black cut in half and place on top of the candy eye's. Medium circle for the black, cut in half for the mouth. Add a tongue by taking small circle cutter and cut in half, attach with water.

Homeless Awareness Month .. Homeless Care Packages

This month is Homeless Awareness Month, as many of you know I make cakes for a charity that bring birthday's to homeless kids. I love the smiles I can bring to their days and it got me thinking about other homeless people. I posted on Friday about wanting to start doing this and I'm so happy to say it turned out great. We had 5 adults and many kids show up and pack up bags for the homeless. It was so gratifying to see how many lives we could touch.

My friend sent me a message after they left. They were on their way home when they drove by a restaurant that was closed and two homeless people where living under the awning. Her oldest daughter got out and handed the two care packages to them. With tears in their eyes they thanked her, my friends daughter got back in the car tears streaming also. She was so touched by this project we did. It brought me to tears that I had this whisper that could lead to helping others.

You can change it up and add different things if you would like. I hit up Dollar Tree and made up 40 of these for less than $40. I read online that you should put soaps in a small zip-lock so they don't taint the food items. I also read no mouth wash since it has alcohol in it. Also famine products are good to add, this time I didn't but next time I will. Some sites said don't put shampoo because they can find that at shelters, but my thought was if they cleaned up in a bathroom they would have it. 

I put the soaps in the small zip-lock and then put all the rest of the items in the big zip-lock. I found a 6 pack of winter socks at Ross for $5.99 and added those to each bag. Each pack cost around $10.00. My plan is to do a outreach get together each month. Next month I want to make up some PB&J Sandwiches and pass those out with the care packages.

Homeless Awareness Month

I got a whisper from the Holy Spirit last week on the way to church and I'm hoping to share with you all. As many of you know I help a charity that brings birthday's to homeless kids. I love to bring smiles to these kids faces. These kids thankfully are in shelters or housing that keeps them warm. But so many are on the streets with the temperatures heading down. 

I've seen ideas on FB for homeless care packages and I told the boys I wanted to do this. They keep asking me when we are going to do this, so when I got the nudge this weekend I knew it was time to act. I starting my first monthly get together at my house this Sunday for us to make a ton of these to keep in our cars. My goal is to do this monthly and every few months head downtown and pass them out and maybe some PB&J sandwiches. I'll work my way there!

Wish me luck I think I have around 10 people showing up on Sunday and bring supplies for us to do an assembly line to make them! I of course have promised cookies for the kids to decorate and take home (my little bribe .. . LOL).
