We all need something sweet ... Fair Scones

As I mentioned in my Welcome Home Basket post I made some yummy treats that are found in this area.  We have a Washington State Fair here in the next town, there you can get these yummy scones.  They are my favorite thing!  So I had to make them for my Seattle themed basket and I doubled the batch so I could have extra's to give to the tutor and to the friend that helps me with the boys to get on or off the bus.

I found this yummy recipe for Puyallup Fair Scones on food.com they were easy to make and tasted like the real thing ... ok well it was very close!

Ingredients

    • 2 1/2 cups unbleached all-purpose flour
    • 2 teaspoons baking powder
    • 2 tablespoons sugar
    • 1/2 teaspoon salt
    • 6 tablespoons shortening
    • 3/4 cup milk
    • 1/2 cup raisins ( if omitting raisins, add another 2 Tbs of milk)

Directions

  1. Sift and measure the flour.
  2. Re-sift with other dry ingredients.
  3. Work shortening into dry ingredients with the fingers.
  4. Add rasinins to flour-fat mixture and mix thoroughly (you may omit raisins).
  5. Add milk to mixture. (If you are omitting the raisins, add another 2 Tablespoons of milk).
  6. Turn out on to a floured board and divide into two equal pieces.
  7. Roll or pat each into a round and to the thickness of biscuits (3/4 inch to a full inch).
  8. Cut into wedge shaped pieces like a pie and bake about 15 minutes at 450 degrees on an ungreased baking sheet.
ALEXIS NOTES:  I used my cornbread silicone mold to make the scone shape :). I didn't use the raisins. I have not mastered jelly or jam making so I used a local farm brand we love to fill them.

Thanks for Stopping by!

Do the Puyallup .. Well I can say we did it and I'm DONE!!

We try to do the Puyallup Fair (The Washington State Fair) every year.  We did it this year, last night.  My idea was to go in and get out!  I'm not a BIG fan of crowd's.  Let's just say it wasn't a go in and out kind of day ... lol.  Of course we had to do it during the week and only last night worked (poor Rick has been working 2 jobs most days and Thursday was the day of ONLY one job).  But of course I started Caden in Soccer classes at the Y so we had to do that first then we came home tried to wake Rick up (did I mention he's been working 2 jobs everyday for about 2 wks).  Then we hit fair traffic!  7pm we get to the fair, thank GOD Rick's cousin's gave the boys a bday gift of a day at the fair we all got in FREE, 7 Rides and $7 in fair food!  PLUS since Rick has been working security at fair for the concerts he had a FREE parking pass.  Oh yes we got out of there for under $10, usually it is a $200+ event!

I took Caden and Rick took Cole so sorry mostly pics of just Caden.  I was able to get a low carb dinner even at the fair! God love these people.  WE did rides, saw the animals and then went home.

Poser time!

Food!!

Rides!!

Animals
YES that last pic is a Camel!!

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend!
I'm going to be super busy I am going on a trip in 2 WEEKS!
More to come on that!!!

I survived the Fair Food!

We took the kids to the fair last night, thankfully with free passes to get in, even a free parking pass and my dad bought the boys dizzy passes (ride passes that allow you to get on rides with out tickets).  OH yes all we had to pay for was food ... yup FOOD the 4 letter word in my life these days.  I have been doing well with the temptations at my parents house, even with the CHEESECAKE from the Cheesecake Factory that was staring at me in the fridge yesterday morning when I went to get food for dad.  YUP I survived that!  BUT then you take me to the fair with all my favorites.  I thought it would be hard to avoid, but by the Grace of God I was able to stick to my guns and only had a hamburger patty.  It wasn't low fat side but I at least I didn't eat the carbs and all the sugar I so wanted!!!

We meet up with a bunch of friends (most of them I have known and lived next to since I was 9 years old)

The kids enjoyed this one, thankfully this wasn't a challenge I don't like it.
Cotton Candy (source)

We walked by Scones (which is usually a fair MUST)

Then Krusty Pups (which is usually a MUST)
Ok NOT the best picture but it showed sign & the corndog.

Then the amazing smell of the Elephant Ears hit me.

We then walked over to get the kids food.
Everyone had an Earthquake Burger's & Fries.

I ended up with a earthquake patty, which was tasty.

Sorry my camera was going dead so I didn't get pictures of food so I had to google them.  But it was very fun I swear I walked 2 miles and I was very good and fought the temptations.  NOW don't ask me to go back again until next year when I'm at my goal weight and can have a splurge day ... lol.

Happy Friday everyone, have a GREAT day and weekend!

Weekend with the Fair and a Pooped Mom!

Friday after work I rushed to pick up Cole and then started to head to Puyallup.  Only to get a call from my parents that my mom isn’t home yet so it would be a little bit until they get there.  No worries I found STREET parking (yup no paid parking … yeah). It was about 6 blocks from the fair so we stopped at Safeway picked up some snacks along with grapes for the kids.

We then meet up with my parents and headed to the fair.  NOW I don’t usually use strollers for the boys since they are older but it helps when we’re here for 5 hours plus my knee was acting up and as many of you know my dad had back surgery this Tuesday so the Friday before he was having problems walking so it helped him too.

Caden is not much for anything fast or goes up and down so he sticks to slow rides.  Our first stop was the carousel with Monnie, yup won’t even go on the horses … lol.  We of course had to see the fire trucks.

Next went to have the boys caricatures done, mom wanted to have them framed.  I know what a cool idea Smile.  Then we stopped at the tattoo’s … yes airbrushed! Cole had a dragon and Caden a shark.

Then Cole and mom headed out for the bigger rides so Caden and I hit the Sillyville smaller rides.  Caden did the peaceful boat ride, me & him road the train, then we went to the cars and of course the dump truck.  Then we hit the airplanes all was good until they went up and down … YIKES oh poor thing cried and cried.  Got him calmed down and we hit motorcycles and all was good.  Both boys did the Jungle gym.

I didn’t get many pictures of Cole on rides since him and mom went off on their own.  They both loved the spinning ride and doing the slide.  Even a smaller roller coaster he talked Caden to go on with, which had to be stopped early so Caden can get off … lol.   So we only did the crusty pups, free parking and dad spent $80 for rides … YIKES.

Saturday had work off from his regular job to work his 2nd job (of the 3 jobs) so I took my chance and ran to get my toes done!!!  Quiet time, a good cup of coffee and time to read.

myhee

I picked up a kit from Lowe’s and let the boys do it with Rick at home.  it was so much fun and yeah we have firetrucks that make noises … lol.

Blogger Pics5

I had birdhouse’s left over from a previous kid’s day so the boys made those also. Hehe Rick got a taste of putting this together as one person and two kid ratio!

Blogger Pics6

Yes I had ONE more kit to make and the lady was so sweet she gave me 2 extra’s so we waited for or Tuesday dinner friends to come over and even had one extra for the neighbor’s son to make them too!  The Goofy Golf kit was a hit!

Blogger Pics7

So there you have it a busy but slow weekend … lol.  I was pooped after Friday’s Fair day so we didn’t do much which made the boys jump off the walls.

On a side note Dad had Surgery on Tuesday, he is currently in recovery.  I will hope to have more information soon. Thanks again for all the prayers and thoughts!

We’re Hitting the Fair tonight

puyallup-fair

We have a county fair here that we do each year.  I remember being young and going several times.  Parents would drop us off and my hard earned babysitting money would buy rides, foods and my friends entrance also.  I remember every school year I would get a new pair of WHITE Keds and I would always wear them there, let’s just say the dirt and white would leave my shoes needing to be bleached each time.  Yeah no clue where I thought it was ok to wear them each time.  I use to love going and riding the rides.  I had a cute boy my senior year operating the tornado.  I rode that ride so many times, and guess what one time I heard a noise above when we were stopped.  Let’s just say the guy above me had so much to drink that it came down and thankfully I was skinner then and crunched into my friend most landed on my seat but some on my shirt.  Cute guy let me wear his shirt while I walked around in heaven Smile.

When I was older I remember one time getting El Nino and being so embarrassed since this was pre weight loss and the overhead seatbelt not wanting to close thank god it did.  But needless to say this mommy body that is no longer in shape will be getting on rides.  We’re going with my parents so it will be time in the kiddy zone and let them run.  We’ll pay $15 for parking $10 to get in and who the heck knows how much more I will spend.  Not really for me but for the boys, so here we go.

We’ll go visit our animal friends:

Cow

Cole will do some Mutton Buston (Riding a Sheep)

Mutton

We’ll watch the amazing pumpkin carver.

And we’ll watch the crazy long line for the Roller Coaster.
