Despicable Me Birthday ... INSIDE the Gift Bags (Minion Goodies Made)

Next on the list was the goody bags we passed out to the kids that came.  I was so tickled even with the crazy rain we got we had 20+ kids show, which was hard since I only made 20 gift bags.  I have to make up one for Cole and my friends son.

As most of you know I HATE treat bags full of candy or dollar store items.  I use to not do goody bags for this reason.  Then when I got on the crazy train of themed parties I started to find items to make that are in theme.

First off I started with the gift bags (here is the post showing the step by step on how to make).  Then I got busy with making the items to go into the bags.


Now What to put into them?

Despicable Me Birthday ... Snack Bar (Food Ideas & Printable Food Tents

HOLD ON IT'S A LONG POST WITH LOT'S OF IDEAS .. LOL.  

Next on the todo list was the food!  I had to do a fun sign "Caden's Snack Bar" and served the food in dog bowls like Gru served candy and water to the girls in the first movie.  I found the ideas of the snack bar sign and the shrunken moons on One Lucky Pickle, she has some great ideas for a Despicable me party check it out! 




Here is how I did the sign:
I made ovals for the minions (cutting off the bottom and sides)
Circles for the eyes and added a google eye
I made a "I" for the eye strip
And made his name in 2 colors to make it pop
Glue it all on with your craft glue.

For the food I found these simple Food Tents on Family Shopping Bag.  I took her template pasted into word doc and added some fun food names using the Minion font I downloaded.

Despicable Me Birthday ... Cookie Robots & Vector's Coconutties

Now on to the cookie portion of our menu!  I found two very simple recipes and made these 2 fun cookies.  


First off I wanted to make the robot cookies and found a few ideas on pinterest the best one was on Rachelle Chase Blog.  Since we were having a party with a bunch of little kids I made one robot with the legs and a few with just the little bodies.


What you Need:
Chocolate Chip Cookies (I used Absolutely the Best Chocolate Chip Cookie Recipe)
Paper Clip (for the Legs)
Tootsie Roll
Red Hot
Red Food Gel

These cookies were the best and went the fastest at the party.  To make the robots I took a tootsie roll added a little red food gel to hold on the red hot candy.  For the legs I broke up a paper clip to make the legs. Two long ones in front and two short ones in the back.

To Make Chocolate Chip Cookies:
INGREDIENTS:
1 cup butter flavored shortening
3/4 cup white sugar
3/4 cup brown sugar
2 eggs
2 teaspoons Mexican vanilla extract
2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
2 cups milk chocolate chips
DIRECTIONS:
1.Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease cookie sheets.
2.In a large bowl, cream together the butter flavored shortening, brown sugar and white sugar until light and fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well with each addition, then stir in the vanilla .Combine the flour, baking soda and salt; gradually stir into the creamed mixture. Finally, fold in the chocolate chips. Drop by rounded spoonfuls onto the prepared cookie sheets.
3.Bake for 8 to 10 minutes in the preheated oven, until light brown. Allow cookies to cool on baking sheet for 5 minutes before removing to a wire rack to cool completely.

Then I made Vector's Coconutties (remember it's the cookies he bought in the first movie).  I made some very yummy Easy Sweet Coconut Cookies I found the recipe on All Recipes.  These drop cookies were simple to make and came out perfect!  I even had a taste of one.



On the Table

For the Coconut Cookies:
INGREDIENTS:
3/4 cup white sugar
1/2 cup vegetable shortening
1 egg
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup sifted all purpose flour
2 tablespoons sifted all purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 cup flaked coconut
DIRECTIONS:
1.Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease baking sheets.
2.With an electric mixer, cream together the sugar, vegetable shortening, egg, and vanilla extract in a bowl until light and fluffy. Sift 1 cup plus 2 tablespoons of flour together with the baking powder and salt in a bowl, and stir the flour mixture into the creamed mixture; mix in the coconut until thoroughly combined. Drop the dough by teaspoons onto the prepared baking sheets.
3.Bake in the preheated oven until very lightly browned, about 10 minutes; allow cookies to cool on sheets for about 1 minute before removing to finish cooling on baking racks.

I served the cookies in the classic dog bowl that Gru served "food" aka candy in for the girls in the first movie.

Despicable Me Birthday ... Minion Cupcakes (2 Versions)

Well the party has come and past.  Since we live in Washington I'm use to rain.  NOW late June almost July I'm usually pretty safe or just a brief sprinkling.  But it was like the sky had open up and I was waiting for Noah to come by and pick me up in his ark.  YES no lie it poured for like 20 min then we would have 30 min of sun and so it went for 4 hours like this!  Then EVERYONE left and sunshine from 7p on!  Thank God for a pop up tent and kids who could careless about rain since they would get wet anyways swimming in the lake.  



So I made 2 cupcake versions for the party!  Both very simple.  I made 2 dozen cupcakes using my favorite homemade yellow cake recipe along with my FAVORITE go to Sturdy Buttercream Frosting.  I tinted my frosting with Americolor Soft Gel Paste in Lemon Yellow I picked up at Hobby Lobby.

First Cupcake's were minion faces. I found a picture of these minion cupcakes on Pinterest, but ONLY a picture no website or person to give credit too.  So if you are the owner of this original idea please send me a message.


What you Need:
Yellow Frosted Cupcakes
Mini Marshmallows
Black Food Gel

Frosted your cupcakes with your favorite shade of yellow.  I cut my marshmallows in half so they didn't stick up too far.  I made some with one eye and some with two eye's.  Use your black gel to decorate a mouth, eye glasses and hair.  Have fun and make all the faces you can.


Second off was a twinkie minion cupcake.  They used a food writer pen to make theirs.  I used my frosting gel, which went on great but when assembling I did get a few black finger prints on my cupcakes ... lol.  I found SEVERAL versions of this on Pinterest so I'll give credit to Erica's Sweet Tooth one of the sites I found them on.


What you Need:
Yellow Frosted Cupcakes
Twinkies
Black Food Gel (Or Black Food Writer)
Candy Eyeballs

NOW I tried to use my food writer to do these but the Twinkies were too moist and the writer didn't look great so I went with the gel instead.  BE-CAREFUL when assembling not to get your finger in the gel or you'll get finger prints on your minion's.  I didn't assemble the cupcakes until we got to the party so the Twinkies would stay nice and not get knocked around on the drive to my parents house.

Take your frosted yellow cupcakes.  Take your Twinkies cut them in half.  I took candy eyeballs and added a little gel to hold them on.  I then took the black gel to make the hair, glasses and mouth.  Have fun make as many funny faces you want.
