Mickey Mouse Party Recap

It's been a few weeks of all the items I made for the party so I thought it would be nice to have them all together in one blog post for you.  I've put the picture of the item with a link to the post it was on.  This was a very fun party to do, and you know I'm a theme girl and go a little crazy but the kids will be small only for so long, soon enough they won't want mom to do a themed party so I'm going to run with it until I can no longer.

Mickey Mouse Party ... Food Ideas

And we end with the fun themed food made for this party!  I had so much more planned but time got away with me with work etc.   So we end with some fun food items!

Here is what we have this post:

Caden actually made these himself for me!  All I had to do was the cut the tops off the strawberries and wash the fruit!   Found this idea on Creative Kid Snacks, they did Minnie so I just switched the name to Mickey :).

Mickey Mouse Bow-Ties

Strawberries
Grapes (or Blueberries)
Plastic long toothpicks (found at Dollar Tree)

Wash the fruit first, then cut the tops off the strawberries.  One strawberry then grape then end with strawberry on the toothpick!!  Super easy and they were so cute, so many compliments on this one!

Mickey Mouse Watermelon

Small Mickey Mouse Cookie Cutter

Cut your watermelon thin I did not and it made it hard for the cutter to cut through.  I put them in my nice serving tray and perfect size for little hands.

Mickey Mouse Cookies

Ingredients:
2 cups plus 2 tbsp. all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
12 tbsp. unsalted butter, melted and cooled until warm
1 cup brown sugar, packed
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1 large egg plus 1 egg yolk
2 tsp. vanilla extract
1 1/4 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

Directions:
Adjust oven racks to upper and lower-middle positions.  Preheat oven to 325°. Line two cookie sheets with parchment paper or silicone mats.

Whisk dry ingredients together in a medium bowl; set aside.  Mix butter and sugars until thoroughly combined.  Beat in egg, yolk and vanilla until combined.  Add dry ingredients and beat at low-speed just until combined.  Stir in chocolate chips.

Roll dough to make Mickey's ears by taking about 1-1 1/2 tablespoons of dough and rolling into balls. Make 12 of these small balls.  Next divide the dough evenly to make 6 balls for Mickey's head. Using the two prepared cookie sheets, place 3 balls of cookie dough for Mickey's head on each cookie sheet, evenly spread apart, then assemble the ears in the correct position to make the Mickey shape leaving a tiny space between the ears and the head.

Bake, reversing positions of cookie sheets halfway through.  Bake until cookies are light golden brown and outer edges start to harden yet centers are still soft and puffy, about 11-14 minutes. Do not over bake.  Cool cookies on sheets until able to lift without breaking.  Transfer to a wire rack to cool.

I found this idea on Love to be in the Kitchen.  So her's came out perfect, MINE expanded and looked like Mickey needed to go on a diet.  So I did what anyone would do, cry ... THEN I took out my cookie cutters, I was able to cut one big cookie and 2 small cookies in Mickey shape!  She also dipped the ears in chocolate, but let's just say I was lucky to get what I ended up with.

Mickey Mouse Munch

Lastly but as I was told by everyone at the party this was the best stuff ever.  I found this GREAT recipe at my amazing friend Brenda over at Chatting Over Chocolate.  Her's was much prettier then mine because I had this brilliant idea to pipe my chocolate on.  WELL I couldn't find my pipping bag to save my life and thought I'll just use a zip-lock bag. WELL the bag exploded the chocolate gobbed in a big ball so I went to plan B and put the mix with the glob in a bowl put the lid on and shook it up!!

Ingredients:
Popcorn, popped
White Chocolate Almond Bark (I used Red Wilton Melt's)
Red and Yellow Mini M&Ms (I used Red, Yellow; Brown M&M's)
Red and Yellow Sprinkles (I skipped)
Boston Beans (they were Red)
Chocolate Covered Raisins

What to do:

Spread popcorn out on wax paper (or foil) covered baking sheet.  Drizzle chocolate over the popcorn (now this is where a heavy duty piping bag is BETTER then a zip-lock bag).  Add your candy (I added in the Boston Beans and Chocolate covered raisins for the red and brown color).  I added in yellow, red and brown m&m's.  I thought the red melt would be perfect for a pop of color. NOW if I did it correct it would be pretty ... but as I said it tasted awesome.

And that is a wrap on our birthday party!

Mickey Mouse Party ... Mickey Hats & Food Labels

On to our next items made for our famous Mickey Mouse Party (yes it's always fab and famous in my head go with it!).    I wanted to make some hats and food labels but NOT break the party budget doing so.  So instead of buying them I made them using items I had at home and hitting up the Dollar Tree.  If you don't know by know I have stock and I mean piles of card stock paper at the house in all colors!  I always hit Michael's when they have a sale or use a 40% coupon to store it because I seem to use it a lot.

Here is what I made:

I wanted to make party hats but I refuse to buy the expensive ones that I knew most would end up in the garbage at the party or as soon as the people got home.  If you are looking for a great tutorial check out Megan Kunkel's Mickey Mouse Party Hat Tutorial.  I decided to take hats I bought at the dollar tree and add ears to them!  YUP I'm cheap and crafty like that!

Mickey Mouse Hats

What you need:
  • Party Hats (I used Gold (closet thing to Yellow) and Red)
    • (Bought 2 packs $1 each pulled out the colors I wanted.)
  • Ears (Cut on my Circuit)
  • Heavy Red Card Stock
  • Heavy Black Card Stock
  • Hot Glue Gun
  • Scissors

I cut a small hole in the sides (one on each side trying to make sure at the same height) of the party hats.  I cut a set of Mickey Ears on my Circuit using my Mickey Mouse and Friends Cartridge (only doing the ears not the full head).  I also cheated and used the ones that had been cut off of our count down to the party (yup I'm all about the reuse).  I then slide the bottom part of the ears into the slit I made.  I then took my hot glue gun and glued that little piece of paper down on the inside.  I did a step by step in photos below.

Mickey Mouse Food Labels

What you need:
  • Heavy White Card Stock Paper
  • Heavy Red Card Stock Paper
  • Heavy Black Card Stock Paper
  • Paper Cutter (I used my cutter from Creative Memories)
  • Printer / Word

Last on my list was Food Labels, I found a few free ones I could download but most I found were pay for ones.  So I downloaded a Mickey Mouse font on font space and typed up my food names I wanted into a word document (I tried to be cute and funny and play on words). I printed on a heavy white card stock.  I then cut them out trying to keep them the same size.  I then made a tent out of red heavy card stock.  I hot glued the white down onto the front of my red tent.  I then went back to my Mickey Mouse and Friends Cartridge on the Circuit and cut out mini Mickey Mouse heads.  I then added a little glue to the back of the head and glued it onto the top corner of my red tent!

I'll show the food more in detail on a different post
but here is how it looked with the labels.

So there you have it a few more things to try out for your Mickey Mouse Party.

We End with Mickey Mouse Treat Bags

And we end this half birthday party with the treat bags I made for the kindergarten kids in Caden's class.  I saw on Pinterest a really cute treat bag but it was just a picture.  So I took the idea and ran with it.

What you need:
Paper Bags w/ Handle (I found mine at Dollar Tree they only had red - Pack of 2)
Black Construction Paper (I found at Dollar Tree)
Glue
Label (If you want)

For the real party I may either find red or black bags add the ears and add either white or yellow for the button look.  I took a large cup and outlined a circle on the black construction paper (You could use whatever you like I'm all about the easy).  I then cut the ears out.  I took the red bags and added a black ear to the top of each corner.  You can add the circles at the bottom for buttons if you want (I didn't do it this time).  I then added a label for Caden's birthday and a note the party invites will come in July (when his real birthday is).

Fill up your bags:
Mickey Mouse Coloring book (found at dollar tree)

I think it all turned out really cute and the kids loved them.  I can't wait to do the big party in July and all the other fun things we'll make.

Summer Birthday? No worries we will celebrate a 1/2 Birthday

Caden is a summer birthday and his teacher is so sweet that she has the class celebrate those with summer birthday on or around their 1/2 birthday.  Last week I was consumed with all the valentine stuff I had to wait an extra week to post what we did.  He picked out Mickey Mouse (which mind you kind of surprised me since he is not that into it as much as Lego's and Star Wars but hey we'll go with it).

First We start out with the Mickey Mouse cupcakes.  I saw several different version of Mickey Mouse but I came across a few pictures like of a oreo version of Mickey Mouse.  So I ran with it, they turned out so cute!

What you Need:

Oreo's (Double Stuffed)
Red Melts (Wilton)
Black Melts (Wilton)
White Gel Frosting

I melted the red melts in Microwave for 1 1/2 minutes (remember I have burnt chocolate in the microwave before WATCH it).  Dip your oreo into the red, half way to make the bottom part of Mickey.  I let mine dry on some wax paper.  I then melted the edge of a black melt to melt it a bit to be like a glue.  Add two black melts to the top of your oreo (opposite side of the red) for the ears.  I then let them dry again on the wax paper.  I then finished it off with the white gel frosting as two little strips like the buttons on the red.

I made Red Velvet cupcakes and topped with a yellow butter cream frosting.  I then added a oreo cookie to the top of the cupcake to finish it off.  I found some cupcake boxes at Michael's on clearance 3 pack for .99 cents!  Score!!  So I put them in a box for each kid.

So what do you think?  Hope you all had a wonderful weekend!
