Now this is a story about an author I love to read, Victor McGlothin a former Bank VP nearly forfeited an athletic scholarship due to poor reading skills. Thankfully he didn't and has become a very talented writer. He did what few do an overcame his obstacle and went on to complete a Masters degree. Some of you may recognize the name from his online column Victor Said?.
In the Secrets of Newberry you follow along with two lifelong friends discover the truth about life that it is hard and bad things are done. Set in the 1950's in New Orleans. The two friends meet at a not so legal gambling house outside Newberry, Louisiana. There ways are not only troubled with the gambling, but they over indulge with women, food and nights out on the town.
Hampton tries to make a break from the wrong doings when he meets Magnolia Holiday. She is a classy good woman that can turn his life around. He has a plan to leave and make a clean break. His plans take a dive when his pal in crime kills a white city councilman during a robbery gone wrong! All hope of starting over is ruined when local police and FBI is fast after them. How much is friendship worth?
A historical time piece that keeps you with the time period and what is going on with the price of friendship vs love.
