Wine Party Decorations and Food

The day of my mom's surprise 60th party was a blur and some of the food and things made got put up so fast I didn't get a chance to really take pictures of things done. But I wanted to make sure to show them off. A BIG thanks to my bestie Kari and my mom's 2 cousin and one of my cousin's for coming early and setting this all up!

I found these printables on Hostess with the Mostess

I saw on From Beth's on Etsy a sign for Sixty and Sassy.

I took my cricut with my George and Elegant Edges Cartridges and made my own.

These Elegant Wine Bottle Flower Centerpieces found on Uncommon Designs

Bought Green Wine Bottles on Amazon and Flowers at Safeway.

They were beautiful on the tables.

I didn't get the best picture of this punch, 

but I have NEVER had this many people want the recipe!

I took this version of Sarasota Lemonade on The Pampered Jes and tweaked it

Ingredients:

2 bottles Moscato

1 pink lemonade concentrate

3 C of Sprite (more or less, depending on your taste)

Fresh raspberries

Empty all the ingredients into the container and you're done! I ended up using 3 bottles of Middle Sister Moscato and Two 2 Litters of sprite and a large container of raspberries. I skipped the Lemonade and I can't say enough how amazing this tasted, I think the lemonade would have been a bit much.

Chalk Dipped Wine Glasses

For mom's party I wanted to have something the guest could take with them. The day of the party I was running around like crazy so I'm sorry I don't have a clear pic of just the glasses. I saw this idea on All Things Major. 

What you Need:

Wine Glasses (I found mine at the Dollar Tree)

Chalk Paint

Container 

Chalk (for guest to write their name)

Pour some of your chalk paint in a container (I used a plastic ziplock container). Dip your wine glasses in the container. I placed the glasses on a sheet of cardboard in the sun. NOW I learned that when you let these dry don't let them sit for a long time before you flip them if not you'll get bumps in your paint on the glass. 

I also found an idea for a chalk board for people to know it was for them to take home (ONLY if people would have taken their glasses home .. lol). I found an idea for a chalk board on Yahoo Makers.

This table was the talk of the party, even if guest forgot to take home their glasses. My bestie who helped me got a whole new set of glasses.

A tip I found was to bake the glasses at 350 for 20 minutes!

This helps set the paint, they suggest hand washing them.

Wine Party ... Sparkling Wine Cupcakes With Sparkling Wine Butter Cream

Onto the Cake and Cupcakes for the Wine party. As it turns out my bestie's birthday is right before mom's and guess what type of party she was having? OH yes you guessed it a wine party! PERFECT time to try out a recipe I was making the follow weekend for my mom's party! I came across this AMAZING recipe for Sparkling Wine Cupcakes With Sparkling Wine Butter Cream on Food.com's Website. NOW the frosting I had to tweak when I did mom's since the weather has been crazy hot here and I needed something sturdy so I used my Sturdy Buttercream Frosting and added a little of the wine into it.

I have never gotten so MANY compliments on a recipe before this one was a HIT!

What you need:

Ingredients

Cupcakes

• 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
• 3 teaspoons baking powder
• 1 teaspoon salt
• 2/3 cup butter
• 1 1/2 cups white sugar
• 3/4 cup sparkling wine, room temperature
• 6 egg whites

Butter Cream

• 6 cups powdered sugar
• 2 cups butter, room temperature
• 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
• 4 -6 tablespoons sparkling wine, room temperature

Directions

1. Preheat oven to 350°F Prepare a cupcake pan with paper forms.
2. In a large bowl, cream together butter and sugar until very light and fluffy. Sift flour, baking powder, and salt together, and then blend into creamed mixture alternately with sparkling wine.
3. In another large clean bowl, beat egg whites until stiff peaks form. Fold 1/3 of the whites into batter to lighten it, then fold in remaining egg whites. Fill the cupcake liners about 2/3 full.
4. Bake for 20 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the cake comes out clean.
5. Make Butter Cream: With an electric mixer, beat together sugar and butter (or margarine). Mix on low until well blended, and then on medium for another two minutes. Add vanilla and champagne, beating on medium for another minute. Frost cupcakes!

For the Cake I doubled the recipe and baked for 35-40 minutes. I found that the Middle Sister Bubbly Sweet White Wine was fabulous and had a perfect flavor for the cake.

Wine Cork Centerpiece (Numbers or Monogram)

I saw an amazing wine cork monogram done by Popular with the Poplins. I thought what a perfect idea to do for my mom's surprise 60th birthday party. A few things I learned: 1) it takes a LOT of corks to do these big #'s I thought 250 would be plenty turned out only covered the 0 and one line on the 6. I believe it took me around 375 to do both #'s. 2) Instead of buying them off Amazon (WHICH was actually the cheapest I found) you can go to Total Wine and More and get them FREE. Bring a bag to the store and they will fill it up with all the corks you want ... YES FOR FREE!!! Oh yes I wish I would have known that in the beginning and saved me $64! OR put a SOS on Facebook I found that a TON of my friends are wino's and have a bunch ... LOL!

What you need:

Corks (I bought 2 packs fo 250 for $32 a pack)

Wood Letters or Numbers (Hobby Lobby $12.99 Each)

Hot Glue Gun and a TON of Glue Sticks

I took my glue gun and put a glob at the end of the cork (I used the wine stained side up to give the piece some character). I started on the inside and worked my way out. It doesn't have to be perfect put them together with little gaps I found looked the best. It's going to take some time so make yourself comfy!

I must say even though they were a bit spendy to make I LOVE them!
Next time I'll hit up the FREE cork route and it would ONLY cost under $30!

Wine Bottle Birthday Invite

My mom turned 60 this past Saturday, for the last 2+ months I have been planning a surprise birthday party for her. I went with a wine theme and went on the search for the perfect invite to make for her. I found a Wine bottle template on Printable Treats, they have several to choose from. I printed at 95% size to be able to fit into the envelope I bought.

What you need:

Thick Cardstock (I picked a brown w/ grain)

Cork Paper (I used on the back of invite)

Twine (I added for texture)

Thick Card stock (for the invite part)

Hot Glue

Craft Glue

I printed the two per sheet invites onto my thick cardstock in the brown with grain paper. I then added cork paper on the back to give it a wine theme. I then added the wording on the front, using craft glue. I then added the twin to the top and bottom of the wording. Then I wrapped it around the top of the bottle to make it look like the cork part, attaching with hot glue.  All these supplies were brought at hobby lobby on sale!

Wording:

Cookie's (mom's nick name) turn sixty and still loves surprises. So join us as we are organizing a surprise birthday party in her honor.

I took a word doc and made the size of the insert, I then put as many as I could per a sheet and printed on card stock. I then cut to fit on the bottle invite.

I must say I loved these invites!

Planning a Wine Party!!!

My mom is turning 60 this coming weekend, so I've been working for a few months on putting together a surprise party for her. She loves wine and gardening so I tossed around several ideas for a while and came to a wine themed party (yes you all that follow me know I'm a sucker for a themed party). I'm putting it all together right now a few things of course will have to do the day before and the day of but I'm working on the things I can do leading up to Saturday.

Here's a sneak peak of what I've been working on so far.

I started a 60 out of wood covered in corks!

Who would have thought 250 corks would NOT be enough (waiting on more .. yikes)

Without going broke I hit up Grocery Outlet and saved $225.21!! whoo hoo!

And of course the wine themed invitations!

I put cork paper on the back to tie in the theme!

I love how they turned out!

Wine Lover's Gift ... Masking Tape + Shoe Polish Vase

Next on my list of DYI Gifts is one the boys made for my mom.  It started with my mother's day gift, Cole made me one of these really cool vases and we thought it would be the perfect gift for my mom for mother's day also.

I didn't have to search how to since Cole had just did it in class and gave me a play by play but I did find the steps on How to Do Things also.

What you Need:

Wine Bottle or fun shaped Bottle (emptied ... YUP you get to have a drink first)

Masking Tape

Shoe Polish

Modge Podge

Peel off the label off your bottle (first it must be emptied so you can have a nice glass of wine or you can use a alcohol bottle so pour yourself a shot or two).  I'm on my diet so sadly I didn't get to have a drink.  I took a picture of the boys and uploaded to PicMonkey.  I changed the color to sephia, added a heart and the words  We Love Monnie.  I cut the photo down to size and with the sticky of the label left over I placed the picture on the bottle.  I made it look almost like a wine label.  I put some masking tape around the picture to make sure it was secure.  I then got Caden and myself to work on tearing up the masking tape.  We made different sizes and shapes to give the vase some depth.  Cole covered the whole bottle including the bottom and the lip of the bottle.  This took about an 45 minutes to an hour to do.  Once done we took the shoe polish and went over the bottle.  We took 2 coats of shoe polish to make sure we covered every inch (be-careful around the picture).   Once the polish has dried, take some modpodge and cover everything.  You can make two coats of this if you would like.  This will seal the bottle and give it a pretty shine.  

I added some fake flowers to give it a pop of color and gave it to my mom.  It is perfect for any kitchen, especially if it's a family that loves wine it will fit in perfect.
