So the boys are getting to the point when they can eat their own meals up. They have mastered popcorn with the simple button that says popcorn. And reheating spaghetti was where we had a little problem. No matter how many times I have said cover your bowl/plate with a paper towel, it just doesn't seem to sink in! So when I opened my microwave that I just cleaned to find this (mind you a few days had past since I rarely use the microwave) burnt on hard mess I wasn't pleased.
I thought I would give this no mess easy clean fix a try. I made it up set the timer and who it's God Green Earth was I really thinking would be sparkling clean when I opened it up. REALLY am I living with a house elf that cleans up after the kids? How could hot water and vinegar wipe down the walls and clean?
What you Need:
1 Cup Vinegar
1 Cup Hot Water
Mix vinegar & water put in the microwave for 10 minutes. The steam SHOULD clean everything off. They claim no smell, no scrub and easy! YUP I still had to scrub and now I have a microwave that smells like vinegar :)
I opened it up to see the same mess I started with. NOW some of the stuff wiped right off, BUT that was just some. I had to actually take my scrubber sponge to clean most of it. Then I had to take the plate inside to clean it up. It smelled like vinegar and now after some elbow grease it's clean ... UGH!
LOL well they can't all work! Has anyone tried and worked for them?
Sometimes there is no replacement for good old elbow grease.
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't have thought it would be gone, but I sure would have thought a light wiping would have done the job. I thought it loosened it all up for easy removal!
ReplyDeleteI have never tried this. I would have thought it would work.
ReplyDeleteI hardly ever use my microwave so it really doesn't get dirty
ReplyDeleteI put a glass of water in a coffee mug. Put on high power 5 minutes. When buzzer goes off wait 3 minutes, and wipe. Works like a charm for me.
ReplyDeleteI've done this and it was rough smelling.
ReplyDeleteI just use water now. I put it in for 5 minutes then take it out and scrub it's a bit easier. It keeps me from using cleaners which I'm trying to cut back on.
Thanks for the info.
ReplyDeleteHmmmmm.... this is how I used to clean my microwave. Wonder why it didn't work for you?
ReplyDeleteI've never tried that method but I've read mixed reviews on it. I'll stick with just scrubbing the microwave down.
ReplyDeleteI've wondered about this! Where are those cleaning elves when we need them?! Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteGood to know. I have seen that pin many times. Enjoy your weekend Alexis!
ReplyDeleteOnly the magic eraser has ever worked for me!!
ReplyDeleteHave you ever seen that Pinterest fail board? It is HILARIOUS!!!!
ReplyDeleteThat sucks though...and although vinegar is supposed to be great... I hate the smell of it.
I used lemon juice instead of vinegar. It worked really well for me. It also smelled a lot better.
